How does it work?
IPL skin rejuvenation uses short, safe bursts of intense pulsed light, often referred to as laser. The system filters the light to ensure the wavelengths used are absorbed by hemoglobin in the fine blood vessels and melanin in the age spots. When cells containing a lot of melanin or hemoglobin are treated, the target heats up and is destroyed within a few thousandths of a second.
IPL hair reduction is a more advanced form of laser hair removal. It offers safe, clinically proven, permanent reduction of dark hair on the face and body. Visible light from our Ellipse machines is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and converted to heat, permanently destroying the hair follicle.
How will it improve my skin or hair growth?
Life ages our skin and we want to age it back! Sun exposure and a decrease in the production of collagen age our skin. IPL makes your skin look smoother by removing age spots, other uneven pigmentation and diffuses redness. You'll also notice an improvement in skin texture. You may notice that the skin looks "dirty" for a few days following treatment. After that, you will find that your skin looks smoother and fresher.
IPL is an ideal long-term solution to your regular waxing appointment or razor. We most commonly treat the face, underarms, bikini line and legs. For men, permanent hair reduction on the chest and back are an ideal way to keep you well groomed, permanently.
Who does it suit?
IPL skin rejuvenation has pre-programmed settings for different skin types that deliver the correct energy output for different complexions. However, it is most efficient in clients with lighter skin who are not suntanned at the time of the treatment. When the skin is paler in tone, the contrast between the age spots/blood vessels and the tone of the skin is greater.
IPL is ideal if you have fair or medium toned skin (we can treat most olive, Mediterranean and Asian skins). It is not suitable for darker skin or very fair hair - we recommend Electrolysis for these clients.
How does it feel? What happens during treatment? What areas can be treated?
The light used is completely safe, visible light. It is, however, important to avoid tanning or any kind before and during the treatment period as it makes treatment less effective and less comfortable. Generally, no special care is necessary after treatment, but people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cold damp cloth after the treatment or using a prescribed ointment. After treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days, even if there is no sign of inflammation in the treated area. Sun protection should always be worn - minimum SPF30.
Regardless if you are having a course of skin rejuvenation or hair reduction, the treatment is like a faint sting followed by warmth, similar to that of a rubber band flicking the skin. No anesthetics are required and many clients describe the treatment as practically pain free.
How many treatments do I need and how often?
A full-face skin rejuvenation treatment takes less than 20 minutes. You should see an improvement after the first treatment, but three or more treatments may be needed to achieve the full effect. You might choose to have one or two annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.
The overall number of treatments for hair reduction varies for each person but typically around 8 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. Our IPL Specialist will work out a plan with you during your consultation. It is a fast, safe method of long-term hair reduction all over the body - areas that can be treated are Bikini Line, Brazilian, Underarms, Upper Lip, Legs, Stomach, Face, Arms and Chest. We also treat male clients on the Neck, Back and Shoulders!
How much is a course?
Each client is different and will require a different number of courses. A personalised quote will be given at the time of consultation.
If you're a regular waxer, IPL permanent hair reduction can save you thousands over the years (not to mention time saved on monthly appointments)! A personalised quote will be given during your consultation. An initial consultation is required so that we can explain the treatment, review your medical history, perform a patch test, estimate the cost of your treatment and answer any questions. The cost of the consultation is redeemable on treatments you book on the day.
We also offer an easy payment plan where you pay a 10% deposit up front and the remainder over 12 months.
