Why microdermabrasion may not be the best treatment for your skin

5 minutes with Haley Tietjens, Business Performance Manager at About Face

We spoke to About Face Business Performance Manager, Haley Tietjens, about the differences between Microdermabrasion and Skin Peels for exfoliating your skin and why microdermabrasion may not always be the best choice. Read on to see her advice.

If you are having any textural problems with your skin such as breakouts, congestion, dryness, flaking, dullness and premature ageing this can often relate to your skin cell turnover.  Skin cell turnover is affected for different reasons.  It can be due to hormonal changes, incorrect skin care, neglect, diet and lifestyle, the elements and age.  Exfoliation is a great way to increase the cell turnover and have a healthier skin.  There are several ways you can do this but 2 of the most effective are microdermabrasion and skin peels:

Microdermabrasion is a great way to exfoliate a thick, oily skin and it effectively helps removes blackheads and dead skin build up.  It works only on the outer layer of the skin and works best in combination with other treatments.

However microdermabrasion is not a great treatment for a thinner, more sensitive skin.  This is because it can be a little abrasive.  When you have a microdermabrasion we highly recommend having an Omnilux LED light treatment afterwards and an infusion of vitamins as this is going to calm the skin, hydrate and help treat the 3 layers of the skin.

A great way to try all three of these treatments is About Face’s signature The Power of Three Facial which incorporates a bespoke combination of a Skin Peel or Microdermabrasion, an Omnilux Light and Active Vitamin Infusion. Each of the three steps is personalised to what your skin needs on the day (for instance we have seven peels to choose from and three lights)! This facial has recently won best facial at the NZ Best in Beauty Awards – book yours today to find out why

90% of exfoliation treatments we do at About Face are skin peels.  This is because peels not only exfoliate very effectively but they can be used on the most sensitive skins and they do much more than just exfoliate.  We have over 12 different types of skin peels to suits all skin types and conditions.

Skin peels effect the skin in many ways including increasing the skin cell turnover, plumping and hydrating the skin, clearing blackheads and congestion, increase product penetration post peeling, soften fine lines and they are very lightening and brightening on the skin thus helping pigmentation.

Microdermabrasion or Skin Peels can be added to any About Face Facial as a booster for just $85. Either treatment is included in The Power of Three $259 and can be included in the Skin Changing Facial $189! Why not make a booking today?
