Hyaluronic Acid is the hydrating and anti-ageing gem that everyone needs in their skincare routine.
So what do you need to know?
Hyaluronic Acid is the key to instantly plumping fine lines and making skin look glowy and hydrated! It’s main function is to retain water to keep your skin moisturised and support the skin's barrier function which leaves your skin feeling really healthy and hydrated.
Although it includes the word ‘acid’, don't let this deter you from incorporating it into your daily routine, it’s not as harsh or intense as it sounds. It works well for all skin types including sensitive skin and blends well with other skincare must-haves.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a sugar found naturally in our skin that holds water and helps your skin stay hydrated and plump. The HA within our bodies binds a thousand times its weight in water to not only retain all that moisture in our skin and joints but also stops all that moisture from evaporating into the air. Like collagen and elastin, the amount of naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid in our bodies decreases as we get older but there are ways to help stimulate the production of HA.
When used in skincare products like creams and serums, hyaluronic acid brings moisture to the surface of your skin. Hyaluronic acid works well with most other ingredients and can be paired with peels, retinols, vitamins, and other acids. The only exception would be combining it with other acids with lower pH levels, such as glycolic acid as it might degrade the HA making it not as effective as it could be.
Some skin benefits include:
- Improved appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Plump and hydrated skin
- A great hydrator for all skin types, especially dry
- Anti-oxidant properties – protecting from free radical damage
Hyaluronic acid is incredibly powerful at bringing moisture to the surface of your skin so you might not need to use it in more than one product in your routine.
