What is Fraxel re:fine?

Fraxel is the gold standard in advanced skin science recognised worldwide. The range of treatments vary in aggressiveness, and About Face is proud to be the first in NZ to bring you Fraxel re:fine – the gentler treatment of the Fraxel family which can yield significant results for mild to moderately damaged skin caused by aging, the sun or acne.

Fraxel re:fine rejuvenates your skin safely, effectively and quickly. It is designed to give you a smoother, younger, fresher looking skin with improved tone and texture. It is fantastic for reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and reducing the appearance of unwanted brown spots. Mild acne scaring can also be treated.

How does it work?

Fraxel repairs damaged skin by treating only a small fraction of skin at a time. This ‘fractional’ treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. The result is a natural stimulation of new collagen without the fear of downtime and risks associated with traditional ablative treatments.

A typical Fraxel treatment is completed in about 30-45 minutes however, we allow an appointment time of 2 hours for pre and post care.

What can it do for ageing skin?

If you would like to put the brakes on the aging process and have your skin looking younger and fresher, with an improved tone and texture then Fraxel re:fine is definitely an option for you. By stimulating the growth of new collagen from the inside out, Fraxel re:fine can eliminate dark spots and actually prevent fine lines from appearing! This enables you to keep that youthful radiant, healthy glow and put your best face forward at any age.

How many treatments do I need?

An effective treatment plan usually includes three to six treatments, spaced approximately three to four weeks apart.

About Face have put together two great packages of either three or five Fraxel re:fine face treatments, coupled with an Omnilux Plus Light after each treatment. You will also receive a take home skincare package to ensure the best results for your skin.

Does it hurt?

Most of our clients describe a ‘prickling’ sensation during the treatment. A topical anesthetic is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort, and cold air is applied throughout the treatment which helps combat the heat your skin generates.

Is there any downtime?

Fraxel re:fine is designed to have minimal downtime. After the procedure it is common to experience a sun burnt feeling, and this usually diminishes after two to three hours. Some clients experience a mild swelling and the skin may look bronzed for a few days.

Clients can wear make-up to reduce the sun burnt appearance, and it is imperative to wear a sun block after the treatment to protect your skin. We usually treat on Fridays to minimise downtime from work commitments.

What results can I expect to see?

A younger, fresher looking skin! These results can be visible within one week after treatment. Your skin will progressively improve over the next few months as the wound healing process that rebuilds your own natural Collagen and Elastin continues, and replaces your damaged tissue.

Optimal improvement is seen in two to three months after your treatment series has finished.

How is it different from other treatments? E.g. IPL

Unlike other treatments, Fraxel works at a deeper level and targets the water in the skin cells. Because of the depth it reaches, it achieves a greater increase in collagen and better elastin rebuilding results, thus younger looking skin. Fraxel re:fine can also be used on all skin colours, from very fair to very dark.
